General Eligibility
Residency: Cats and dogs must have been continuously living in the Republic of South Africa for a minimum of six (6) months immediately prior to export or since direct importation from Australia or since birth.
Cats and dogs must not be under quarantine restriction at the time of export.
Age: Cats and dogs must be at least six (6) months old at the time of export.
Pregnancy: Paws Resort does not quarantine pregnant or suckling animals.
Cat Breeds: In accordance with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), cats derived from a serval cat (Felis serval) are not eligible for importation into Australia. This includes cats derived from crossbreeding a domestic cat (Felis catus) with a serval cat or with a savannah cat (Felis catus x Felis serval).
Dog Breeds: Under the legislation of the Australian Customs Service, dogs of the following pure-breeds are prohibited and are not eligible for importation : Dogo Argentino, Fila Brazileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier , American Pit Bull, Perro de Presa Canario or
Presa Canario.

VACCINATIONS must be given between 1 year and 14 days of Export.
This includes 5-1 and Kennel Cough for Dogs and 3-1 and Snuffles for Cats.
Both Cats and Dogs MUST be vaccinated against RABIES within 1 year of export. If your pets vaccinations history is not up to date, then this vaccine must be administered at least 28 days prior to starting Quarantine.
NOTE: vaccinations against Leptospiros Interrogans are not recommended as they can interfere with the testing and may result in your dog being INELIGIBLE for EXPORT to Australia.
GERIATRICS: All pets older than 7 years must undergo a geriatric profile by your veterinarian. We advise full blood counts, liver and kidney enzymes and urine analysis and if your vet deems necessary chest and hip x-rays.
CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS: Long term medical treatment MUST be discussed prior to starting Quarantine. Treatment can be managed during Quarantine, providing the problem is not acute, nor deteriorating.
Please note that if your pet has severe health problems they may be barred from entering Australia as the Veterinarian and the State Veterinarian may not sign the Health Certificate on departure.
MICROCHIPS: Please note only Virbac Backhome and Identi-Pet are acceptable.
BITCHES IN SEASON: Puberty normally begins from 6 months in toy breeds to 18 months in giant breeds. Please keep this in mind and inform us if your bitch is not spayed and due to come into season during their quarantine period.

Australian Quarantine Inspection Services & Kennels
The following AQIS documents need to be completed by the Pet Owner in order for us to apply for the pets' AQIS Import Permits online:
- Application to Import - to be completed and signed by you
- Veterinary Attendance Declaration - to be completed and signed by you
- Veterinary Medical Form - to be completed and signed by your veterinarian in the case of pets with chronic medical conditions
We also require your pets' original vaccination certificate- with a valid Rabies vaccination history.
Please note that the person who has completed and signed the documents above will be the only person who can take the pets out of Quarantine in Australia.
Paws Resort will apply for the Import Permits for your pets from AQIS, once we have the initial blood test results back for the Rabies Neutralising Anti-Titre Test. (RNATT)
Once we have the Import Permit/s we then book space at the Quarantine Station in Australia closest to your chosen Port of Arrival. There are only stations in Perth, Sydney & Melbourne.
All pets entering Australia after 1 February 2012 will be subject to new payment regulations. AQIS will invoice you for the period booked in your chosen Quarantine Station, once paid for the space will be confirmed by AQIS. Please note that Paws Resort cannot be held responsible for any delays resulting from non-payment for the Quarantine reservation, or as a result of backlogs within AQIS.
